How to Get Out of Your Own Way – 4 Steps to Create Things That Matter to You

What is your heart truly craving for? - Hello Genius Cards © Karin Pinter

With all the stressors of life, it can seem more challenging to see long term and put things into place. It’s almost as if we’re plodding along day by day and at times we can hardly even see through the whole week or month. Do you often feel that way?

Whilst it’s become normal for many people, it doesn’t have to be YOUR normal.

Are you on point with any of the things you set out to create so far? Did you even set any sort of goals or write any vision for what you’d like to accomplish, both short and long term?

You may think it’s a useless exercise, but even one of our most cherished and world renowned creators said it best:

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
– Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Not having a plan means that it typically takes you longer to get where you want to go, if you even get there. And let’s not fall into mental traps or delusions such as, “It wasn’t meant to be,” or “I’m just not made for it,” through which we deny ourselves from accomplishing the very things that light us up. If you feel something in your heart, it’s worth aiming for, even if you’re not currently equipped to achieve it. All those things are part of our personal growth process to show ourselves what we ARE capable of. The key is daring to do it.

There’s too much self denial or self exclusion in this world and it explains why our community is in such a sad state. I’m not being negative, it’s simply just that prevalent. So many dreams wanting to come alive, yet too many thoughts, words and self defeating actions that suffocate them. Here’s the thing; if we’re not personally exploring our human potential, then we’re part of the cloud that keeps it from evolving, so we don’t get to complain about others who aren’t doing it either. It’s like pointing your finger to blame someone else when you have three pointing back at yourself. Oops.

So, what are your heart and soul truly craving for that you may not even dare to voice out loud? That’s what needs to be given attention! I know it can seem scary at first, but who would you be if you achieved that thing that’s swimming around in your mind? What would your life be like?

4 steps to help you get out of your own way:

1. Make time for clarity. Without clarity you can’t see what needs to be done and plan it out. Clarity also gives you WHY you want to do it.

2. Once you have clarity, write out a plan. Without a plan you’re like a puppy chasing its tail, spinning in circles yet getting nowhere; this is a key destroyer of motivation and the accomplishment of goals and dreams. It’s okay if you don’t have all the steps yet, as many of them reveal themselves along the way. just get some key action steps outlined and try not to control everything.

3. Look for what you can start doing on a daily basis in order to move the needle. Micro steps are better than nothing at all or trying to take big leaps. Remember that a novel is merely a bunch of words strung together and a building is a bunch of timber or bricks put together; each piece counts towards the greater thing you’re creating.

4. Remove blockages like limiting beliefs, negative thinking, and counterproductive behaviours or situations. This one will often require help so that you can get out of your own way. Is there something you keep bumping up against yourself that, if it were gone, would help you catapult forward?

If you’re struggling with any part of this, let’s talk and wipe away some of that fogginess. We may not conquer everything in one day, but we will definitely get the ball rolling in the direction of your desires. Because anything you want to do that lights up your heart is worth giving it a go; for you, for me, for all of us.
